Killarney Golf Senior Men's League

Entry deadline: 9:00 a.m. for 9:30 a.m. Shotgun
Effective from the start of the 2011 season until advised otherwise.

This is a league for senior men age 50+. No need to sign up nor do you require an established handicap to play. Just show up before the posted cut-off time every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Teams are generated by the computer immediately following the cut-off time, so arrive early to avoid being left out.

On Mondays and Fridays, the format is Keen Age. Before the round, each player is assigned a quota of points based on his past performance in the Keen Age format or on handicap/average score for anyone who has yet to play.

Each player plays his own ball and accumulates points for the team based on the following:

  • eagle - 6 points
  • birdie - 4 points
  • par - 3 points
  • bogey - 2 points
  • double bogey - 1 point

Prizes are awarded to the teams with the greatest number of points in excess of their team quota and to the infamous Tail Gunner team with the greatest number of points under their team quota.

On Wednesdays, the format features a variety of team games where players play their own ball and net scores are utilized to determine winning teams. Handicaps are based on past performance in league play or on handicap/average score for anyone who has yet to play in the league.

Games include:

  • Best 2 Net - Each hole, the 2 best NET scores will be totalled for the team's score for that hole.
  • Best of Both Worlds - Team score will consist of the Best NET score & Best GROSS score in the group.
  • Modified Stableford - This format will use the following scoring system for players' NET scores on each hole. Double Eagle +12, Eagle +8, Birdie +3, Par +1, Bogey 0, Double Bogey -1, Anything worse -3.
  • 6-6-6 - Before play, the order of play will be announced, 1-2-3, 1-3-2, 2-3-1, 2-1-3, 3-2-1 or 3-1- 2. e.g. 1-2-3 … for holes #1 to #6, the team score will be the best NET score. For holes #7 to #12, the team score will be the sum of the best 2 NET scores. For holes #13 to #18, the team score will be the sum of the best 3 NET scores.
  • Follow the Leader - Each member of the team is assigned a number corresponding to the order that he will be chosen as “the leader”. Each hole “the leader’s” NET score will count towards the team's total score. eg. If a group has 4 players, the players will be designated either a 1, 2, 3 or 4. On the first hole played, the player designated as #1 is the “leader” and his NET score would be used towards the team total. On the second hole played, the player designated as #2 is the “leader” and his NET score would be used towards the team total ... and so on. On the fifth hole played, the player designated as #1 is the “leader” as the sequence would start over ... etc.
  • The Lone Ranger - Each member of the team is assigned a number corresponding to the order that he will be chosen as “the Lone Ranger”. Each hole The Lone Ranger's NET score and the best NET score of the remaining players in the group will count towards the teams total score. eg. If a group has 4 players, the players will be designated either a 1, 2, 3 or 4. On the first hole played, the player designated as #1 is the “Lone Ranger” and his NET score is added to the BEST NET score of one of the remaining players for the Team score on that hole. On the second hole played, the player designated as #2 is the “Lone Ranger” and his NET score combined with the BEST NET score of the other players in their group would be used.
  • Wolf Pack - Each member of the team is assigned a number corresponding to the order that he will be chosen as “the wolf.” Each hole “the wolf” is determined based on the number they are in sequence. eg. If a group has 4 players, the players will be designated either a 1, 2, 3 or 4. On the first hole played, the player designated as #1 is the “Wolf”. On the second hole played, the player designated as #2 is the “Wolf” ... and so on. On the fifth hole played, the player designated as #1 is the “Wolf” as the sequence would start over ... etc. “The Wolf” is required to choose a partner after everyone has hit their tee shot on the hole. That partner and “the wolf” will take their NET scores on the hole and add them together to determine the team's final score for that hole.
